Trying a different color technique and not sure about it yet.... I am a dummy! I am a dummy! I am a dummy! I am a dummy! I am a dummy!

Story time!

In the small town of Constance, USA, there are often dances and social parties for the locals to participate in. One summer evening, a dance was held by one of the more wealthy residents and Emily begged her father to let her go. Seeing how much she gives up to care for him and how lovely of a woman she has become, agrees for her to go as long as he comes with her. Tom has rarely gone to parties ever since his wife has passed. However, he finds himself with the prospect of going to more events with his little girl all grown up! No, I disagree!

As the townsfolk receive the Harrisons at the party, they constantly remind Tom how lovely his wife, Sarah, was and how she was the belle of the ball all the time. Everyone loved Sarah and remembered her very fondly. Emily then hears a conversation not far form her of how much she must be a disappointment to her father because she was NOTHING like her vivacious mother.

Emily has learned early on that she was living under the larger-than-life shadow of her mother who was loved by all. Emily, being more introverted and reserved like her old man, cannot compete with the memories of her mother and is often overlooked. This makes her upset and she withdraws from the party out onto the balcony. Tom notices her absence and finds her near to tears.

He silently sits with her for awhile and then, after packing his pipe, begins to comfort his daughter.

Tom begins, "My most precious girl. What troubles you?"

"Momma, she was lovely... wasn't she?" Emily whispered.

"Yes. She was rare and lovely woman." Tom replied. "It was a night like this that I realized my heart was hers. How I was entranced...." Tom grew quiet - musing.

"She was so admired!" Emily croaked. "Do I disappoint you, Papa? I fear as though I will never escape the shadow of this lovely lady..." her voice faded.

"Oh, my beautiful girl." Tom tenderly wrapped his arm around Emily, now gripping her mother's old locket and looking at the ground. Squeezing her tightly, he declared, "There is nothing on this side of Heaven that you could do to possibly disappoint me! Your mother was an exceptionally lovely and warm person, yes, but you have inherited that and more. My life has been decisively enriched by your big heart and unrivaled smile. You have become quite a lady and your beauty is superlative. I love you more than you can ever know, child."

The pair glanced at each other and smiled, sitting silently together as the warm summer night breeze brushed against their faces.

This is such a beautiful picture. The lighting and the starry sky make it look so serene
