So absolutely true. I wonder how he'll handle the 2nd "Thor" movie... The only thing I really didn't like was the quartet of themed buddies... Why the heck are there a ninja and an Amazon in Asgard??

they are warriors who died awesomely in battle and Odin brought their souls to Asgard as a reward for being good fighters. It's part of Norse mythology, if you die in battle Odin takes you to Asgard and Valhalla, if you die a boring normal death, you go to Hela's domain in Hel.

I have read Norse mythology extensively and understand the concept of Valhalla and Hel. I guess my problem with those characters is that they're so obvious... kind of like when movies with a mostly-white cast throw in the most exaggerated stereotypes (just as an example) of a black guy and an asian. Thor's little companions are almost straight out of "Goonies": The fat kid, the asian, the pretty boy, and the surprisingly hot and badass tomboy. I just find it an unimaginative and poor choice.

well, they are a lot more fleshed out in the comics, the movie just did not give them any development at all apart from pure tropes. In the comics you learned what each did to get to Valhalla, and the girl is supposed to be Sif.

Oh, ok! I've never read the comics, so I was completely unfamiliar with those characters. Now I understand! Sorry if I sounded totally belligerent, and thanks for explaining that to me!
